About KVK, Fatehpur

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Fatehpur Shekhawati- Sikar was established in 1976 with the 15.24 hectare land and administrative building donated by Bhartia charitable trust under umbrella of Sri Karan Narendra Agriculture University, Jobner- Jaipur. It is located 50 kms away from district headquarter Sikar, in between Jaipur and Bikaner on the NH-52. Sikar is situated in North part of Rajasthan between 27°21 to 28°12 North latitude and 74°44 to 75°25 East longitudes. The neighboring district of Sikar are Churu in North West, Jhunjhunu in North East, Nagaur in South West and Jaipur in South East. Sikar is a rainfed and drought prone district situated in transitional plain of inland drainage zone IIa and it has basically agrarian economy. The goal of KVK is to address location specific issues and technology transfer in agriculture and allied sectors.

Objectives

  • To demonstrate the latest agricultural technologies to the farmers as well as the extension workers of the state Department of agriculture/Non-Governmental organization with a view to reduce the time lag between the technology generation and its adoption.
  • To test and verify the technology in the socio economic condition of the farmers and to identify the production constraints.
  • To get first hand scientific feed back from the field and passing it to concern research system in order to keep the scientist abreast with the performance of the technology and the farming problems, so that they can re -orient their research, education and training programmes accordingly.
  • To impart training to the farmers, farmwomen, rural youths and field level extension functionaries by following the principle of "learning by doing".
  • To develop extension models to be adopted by general extension system at large scale multiplications.

Mandates

The mandate of KVK is Technology Assessment and Demonstration for its Application and Capacity Development. To implement the mandate effectively, the following activities are envisaged for each KVK:

  • On-farm testing to assess the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming systems.
  • Frontline demonstrations to establish production potential of technologies on the farmers’ fields.
  • Capacity development of farmers and extension personnel to update their knowledge and skills on modern agricultural technologies.
  • To work as Knowledge and Resource Centre of agricultural technologies for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector in improving the agricultural economy of the district.
  • Provide farm advisories using ICT and other media means on varied subjects of interest to farmers.
  • In addition, KVKs produce quality technological products (seed, planting material, bio-agents, and livestock) and make it available to farmers, organize frontline extension activities, identify and document selected farm innovations and converge with ongoing schemes and programs within the mandate of KVK.

Thrust Areas

  • Dissemination of crop production technologies for Pearl millet, Cluster bean, Cowpea, Green gram, Groundnut during kharif and Wheat, Barley, Mustard, Gram, Fenugreek during rabi.
  • Management of problematic soil and water for sustainable agriculture.
  • Integrated nutrient management in major crops of the district.
  • Integrated Pest & Disease management in major crops.
  • Integrated weed management in major crops.
  • To promote organic farming.
  • Diversification of agriculture through horticulture.
  • Improvement in local breed of livestock.
  • Drudgery reduction, malnutrition, health and hygiene of farm women.
  • Promotion of value addition.
  • Promotion of fodder production technology.
  • Capacity building of rural youth for self-employment.
