Directorate of Education

The Directorate of Education is an important component of the University responsible for all academic activities in the University. The major responsibilities of this directorate are:
  1. To organize PG teaching in all constituent Colleges of SKN Agriculture University, Jobner.
  2. To coordinate research of Post Graduate Students and its integration with the general research programmes of the University.
  3. To maintain the records of the PG students of the University and supervise their progress in coordination with Deans of the Colleges. 
  4. To accreditate the faculty members for PG teaching and acting as research guides and exercise measures to maintain academic standards.
    To maintain academic standards of the PG research in collaboration with other universities/ ICAR Institutes/organizations within and outside the country after approval of Vice-Chancellor.
  5. To conduct the meeting and prepare proceedings of the Academic council of the University.
  6. To manage the affiliation of the private/Govt Colleges (other than constituent colleges) in the jurisdiction of the University imparting undergraduate degree programme in agriculture.
The University offers Bachelor’s degree, Master’s and Doctoral degree programmes in agriculture and allied sciences approved by Indian Council for Agricultural Research, New Delhi. The University has 11 constituent Colleges, 01 constituent college of Dairy Science and Technology and one constituent college of Agri-Business Management. In addition to this, 20 colleges are affiliated with SKN Agriculture University for undergraduate programme in agriculture. All these 34 colleges are located in different places under the judiciary area of the University.
SKN College of Agriculture Jobner is the main teaching campus which offers under graduate and post gradusate programmes. Rajasthan Agriculture Research Institute, Durgapura, Jaipur is the major reserch centre of the University which also run PG programme (M.Sc.Ag & Ph.D.) in selected disciplines of agriculure. Other constituent/affiliated colleges offer only undergraduate progrmmees in agriculture and other allied sectors.

Dr. Narendra Kumar Gupta, Director Education, SKN Agriculture University, Jobner  completed his M.Sc. (Ag.) from Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner and Ph.D. from prestigious IARI, New Delhi. He has been the recipient of University Gold Medal for outstanding academic performance in M.Sc. (Ag) Plant Physiology. He started his professional career as Assistant Professor (Plant Physiology) at SKN College of Agriculture, Jobner, Rajasthan in 1996 and rose to the level of Professor in 2011.
Dr. Gupta is mainly working on plant carbon assimilation, metabolism and utilization at molecular level as well physiological screening of crops for abiotic stress tolerance at field level. He has made significant contribution in generating external funding through adhoc projects from ICAR, RKVY, ISM& H and other agencies. He received first ICAR-CAFT on Plant Biotechnology to the University and thus contributing in capacity building in the field of plant biotechnology through organizing trainings and delivering lectures to train the young scientists.
Dr. Gupta has earlier been bestowed with DBT overseas Assocciateship -2005 to work at University of Adelaide, Australia and ICAR-NAIP traing fellowship to work at UNL, Lincoln, USA in 2013. He has offered to serve as Visiting Professor at University of Mauritius in 2015. He has received J.J. Chinoy Gold Medal Award 2019 for his outstanding contribution in Plant Physiology. In 2020, he received Dr. R. S. Paroda Best Scientist Award for his outstanding contribution in agriculture among all the State Agricultural Universities of Rajasthan.
Dr. Gupta has guided 14 PG students. He has authored many books including “Fundamentals of Crop Physiology” and “Fundamentals of Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology”. Recently he has edited a book “Multiple Abiotic Stress Tolerances in Higher Plants” published from CRC Press, New York.  He has published 80 research papers in different national and international journals gaining H-index 20 and I-index 28. Earlier, he has been awarded with Fellowships from PROM Society, Udaipur (2014), Indian Society for Plant Physiology, New Delhi (2016) and Indian Society for Arid Horticulture (2022).

Dr. Gupta has also served as Dean, College of Agriculture, Navgaon, Alwar (Aug 2019-Jan 2020) and Controller of Examination, SKN Agriculture University (Feb 2020 – Jan 2021) before joining on the post of Director, Education.

Admission Process
Admission is through Joint Entrance Test (JET) conducted by one of the Rajasthan’s State Agriculture Universities in rotation. Separate exams are conducted for Undergraduate, M.Sc. (Ag.)  & Ph.D. programmes. The intake capacity in undergraduate programme is 60 or 120 students in a college. The intake capacity in post graduate programme is different in different disciplines as per the faculty strength in different campuses.

Academic Council
The Academic Council is the highest academic body of the University which consists of Deans, Directors, Controller of Examinations, University heads, invited members, Registrar, eminent agricultural educationists from outside the university. All the members of the Academic Council other than the ex-officio members and members referred in sub-sectoin (2) of the Act hold office for a term of two years. Vice-Chancellor acts as the Chairman and Director Education remains the Member Secretary of the Academic Council
