Vegetable Breeding

Dr. Shashi Kumar Bairwa is an accomplished Vegetable Breeder and Assistant Professor (Horticulture) at the Rajasthan Agricultural Research Institute ( Sri Karan Narendra Agriculture University, Jobner) Durgapura-Jaipur (Rajasthan). He currently serves as the Principal Investigator, ICAR–All India Coordinated Research Project on Vegetable Crops and also holds the additional responsibility of Breeder under the All India Network Research Project (AINRP) on Onion & Garlic. His research focuses on vegetable crop improvement through conventional breeding, hybrid development, germplasm evaluation, and the development of climate-resilient, high-yielding cultivars with enhanced resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses.

He has extensive experience in planning and executing multi-location research trials, breeder seed production, and varietal evaluation across diverse agro-climatic conditions. He is actively engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, delivering courses in Vegetable Science, Plant Breeding, and allied horticultural disciplines. He has guided and mentored M.Sc. and Ph.D. students as Major Advisor, Advisory Committee Member, and Director Education Nominee, contributing significantly to postgraduate education and research capacity building.

His professional expertise includes seed production, research project preparation and scientific/technical report writing. In addition to his research and teaching responsibilities, he actively participates in extension education through farmer training programmes, field demonstrations, exposure visits, and technology dissemination. He strives to develop innovative and sustainable vegetable production technologies that enhance productivity, strengthen nutritional security, and improve farmers' livelihoods.
