About ARSS, Ajmer

The Agricultural Research sub-station, Tabiji, Ajmer was established in the year 1976 at Tabiji farm which is approx. 12 Km. away from district headquarter on Ajmer- Beawar road. It falls under “Agro-climatic zone III-A” (Semi And Eastern Plain zone) of Rajasthan. The center is engaged in need-based, production-oriented agricultural research both basic & applied for the semi-arid area. The ARSS is conducting testing & verification of different crop cultivars of Kharif & Rabi seasons under AICRP viz., arid legumes, pearl millet, wheat & Barley. The center is coordinating the breeder & TFL seed production program to cater the need for quality seed.

Identity of the Unit

The Agricultural Research sub-station, Tabiji, Ajmer is a volunteer center for conducting testing & verification of different crop cultivars of Kharif & Rabi seasons under AICRP viz., arid legumes, pearl millet, wheat & Barley. The center is coordinating the breeder & TFL seed production program to cater the need for quality seed and conducting need-oriented agricultural research.

Aims and Objectives

Lead Function:

  • (a) Floriculture (Desi rose/Pushkarvelly)
  • (b) Conducting need-oriented agricultural research
  • (c) To coordinate the Breeder seed and TFL Seed Production program

Verification Function

Testing & verification of different crop cultivars of Kharif & Rabi seasons under the dry farming situation. Research activities including testing and verification of irrigated Cotton, Wheat, Barley, Mustard, Chickpea & Vegetables.

Mandates & Thrust Areas

Mandates

  • To plan, coordinate and monitor need-based Agricultural Research.
  • To develop appropriate production technology for the optional use of resources in a sustainable manner.
  • To coordinate and monitor the breeder seed production program.
  • To develop linkage with other organizations for crop-oriented research.
  • To extend consultancy and expertise service.

Thrust Areas

To accomplish the mandate, ARSS Ajmer has identified major thrust areas as follows.

  • To carry out basic and strategic need-based research on major crops, vegetables and desi rose.
  • To identify suitable crop varieties, INM, and other crop management Practices for rain-fed & irrigated crops.
  • Testing & verification of cultivars of major crops viz. arid legumes, pearl millet & chickpea in rain-fed & wheat & Barley in irrigated conditions.
  • Assessment & Development of specific technologies suitable for the zone.

Projects

Projects – Completed & Significant output

Project doneOutput
Sulphyhydryl Bioregulator technology for increasing wheat & Mustard Productivity
  • Two foliar sprays of 500 ppm thiourea or TGA 100 ppm at tillering and ear head emergence stage gave a significantly higher yield of wheat.
  • Two foliar sprays of 500 ppm thiourea or TGA 100 ppm at 50% flowering and after 20 days gave a higher yield of mustard.
Development of new technologies to increase the productivity and sustainability of onions under warmer conditions of Rajasthan.
  • In the Kharif season, the planting of bulbs up to 15th July was found significantly superior over late planting.
  • In the Kharif season, planting of onion crops at a 45 cm distance on ridges is found more suitable than flat planting.
  • In Rabi onion, dipping of seeding roots in 40 ppm solution of GA-3 or 25 ppm solution of NAA for 12 hours before transplanting gave a higher yield.
  • Basal application of 5kg zinc/ha gave a significantly higher bulb yield of onion.
Evaluation of customized fertilizers on Cotton
  • Paired row planting of cotton with 60cm and 90cm distance within the pair found suitable.
  • In drip irrigation in cotton the RDF of Nitrogen & potash should be given in six equal splits at 15 days intervals and full dose of phosphorus at sowing is beneficial.
  • Drip irrigation system gave water saving of 40.12 percent with a 39.27 percent higher yield over conventional irrigation system.
Development of techniques for organic farming.
  • Application of FYM 3.0t/ha or vermicompost @ 1.5t/ha+ PSB @ 6.0kg/ha +Rizobium found suitable for higher yield of green-gram under an organic farming system of crop production.

Projects – On-going
