Biography
Dr. Mahendra Meena was recently honoured Rashtrapati Award (National Youth Award 2025) at a ceremony held in the Parliament of India, New Delhi. A pioneering innovator in agricultural nanotechnology, he has developed four novel organic nanotechnologies for crop enhancement and holds four patents for these advancements. Dr. Meena has published high-impact research papers in leading international journals. His accolades include the Young Scientist Award and Bharat Harit Kranti Award at the national level in 2023. Additionally, he secured first position in the Agri India Hackathon 2021—the biggest innovation challenge in India, organized by the Government of India—earning the Best Innovation Award at the national level, presented by the Agriculture Minister, Govt. of India with a cash prize of ₹1 lakh. Dr. Mahendra has made significant contributions at the international level by developing novel, fully biodegradable nanoformulations that extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables at room temperature up to 21 days. These eco-friendly, highly cost-effective formulations eliminate the need for cold storage, enabling farmers to preserve their produce for extended periods and secure premium prices. At just 1 Indian rupee per 1000 kg (the unique selling proposition of this nanotechnology), the innovation directly supports the vision of our Hon'ble Prime Minister to double farmers' income and export value. Dr. Mahendra's organic nanotechnology addresses key horticultural challenges, including biotic and abiotic stresses, while promoting vigorous seedling health, enhanced vegetative growth, maximized productivity, minimized post-harvest losses, and prolonged shelf life of fruits and vegetables. This breakthrough holds immense potential to boost productivity and production in agriculture.
