Projects – Ongoing

1. NFSM

The National Development Council (NDC) in its 53rd meeting held on 29th May, 2007 adopted a resolution to launch a Food Security Mission comprising rice, wheat and pulses to increase the production of rice by 10 million tons, wheat by 8 million tons and pulses by 2 million tons by the end of the Eleventh Plan (2011-12). Accordingly, a Centrally Sponsored Scheme, 'National Food Security Mission' (NFSM), has been launched from 2007-08 to operationalise the above mentioned resolution. The National Food Security Mission will have three components (i) National Food Security Mission - Rice (NFSM-Rice); (ii) National Food Security Mission - Wheat (NFSM-Wheat); and (iii) National Food Security Mission - Pulses and oilseeds .

Mission Objectives

2.1 Increasing production of rice, wheat and pulses through area expansion and productivity enhancement in a sustainable manner in the identified districts of the country;

2.2 Restoring soil fertility and productivity at the individual farm level;

2.3 Creation of employment opportunities; and 2.4 Enhancing farm level economy (i.e. farm profits) to restore confidence amongst the farmers.

District Agromet Unit (DAMU) under GKMS Scheme: -

Established:- July, 2019

Funding Sources :-India Meteorological Department, New Delhi Ministry of Earth Sciences is to provide accurate crop specific advisories to the farmers

  • Scheme:
  • Collaboration: Under GKMS scheme, India Meteorological Department, Ministry of Earth Science in collaboration with State Agricultural Universities /Indian Council of Agricultural Research etc. is issuing crop and location specific weather based agro advisories for the benefit of farming community on every Tuesday and Friday and occurrence of extreme weather
  • Weather forecast: Under this Block level weather forecast for next 5-days in respect of Rainfall, maximum temperature, minimum temperature, wind speed, wind direction, relative humidity and clouds, weekly cumulative rainfall forecast and Crop specific advisories are provided to farmers.
  • Means of advisories to farmers: GKMS of IMD has been successful in providing crop specific advisories to farmers through different print/visual/whatsaap/fb/Radio/ IT based media including short message service (SMS) and Interactive Voice Response Service (IVRS) facilitating appropriate field level actions.
  • Under the DAMU scheme, block level weather forecast including rainfall for the next five days for all the districts is generated.
  • Agromet Advisories: Based on the weather forecast, Agromet Advisories are prepared in collaboration with 130 Agromet Field Units (AMFUs) and communicated to the farming community.
  • AAS rendered by IMD is a step to weather-based crop and livestock management strategies and operations dedicated to enhancing crop production besides reducing crop damage and loss due to extreme weather events.
  • The DAMU of KVK Dholpur has been successful in providing the crop specific agro meteorological advisories to about 1.5 lakh farmers in Dholpur district.
